Luhacovice is very famous health resort and recreation area not only within borders of Czech Republic. The centre is also the Town monumental reservation of modern architecture. The ancestral village (1412) had been the residency of separate feudal manor since 1590 which was lately replaced by Baroque castle. Already in the end of 17th century the local mineral acidulous water was well-known, that gave rise to famed local spa. Luhacovice received a statute of a town thanks to following enlargement of the spa. The eldest monument is a one-storey castle interconnected in one complex with the church of St. Josef. There is a Baroque chapel of St. Alzbeta in the centre. The large spa area has been built mainly in 20th century. We may find there many characteristical buildings from the architect Dusan Jarkovic. Plenty of prominent personalities had been visiting this place. The International cultural summer festival takes place here annually. A water reservoir has been built in 1930 about two kilometres from the town, nowadays popular recreation centre.
